Today I am grateful to have the chance to make the work I make, to share it online (password is painting) and in person at shows, and to be recognized for the quality of the work.

Yesterday I received a phone call from the Colorado Watercolor Society, letting me know my painting “Plein Air, Lake Moraine, 3-4pm, Thursday 8.31.23” has won first place in the 2023 CWS Member’s Exhibition.  I am grateful for this honor, one given not from any personal relationship I have to the Society, but on the merit of the painting itself.  It is one of my favorite works, a meaningful piece reflecting a meaningful experience, a family vacation in the Canadian Rockies, Banff and Yoho National Parks.  Hiking with full painting gear was a new challenge.  Up we went: thousands of feet of elevation, glaciers, cliffs, mountain lakes.  I made over a painting a day, in an attempt to emulate the schedule of my artistic hero and previous Canadian Rockies painting documentarian John Signer Sargent. I felt awe before unimaginable natural elements, the scale of which must be seen firsthand to be believed, and gratitude to be there as a guest of people who care about me, and value my profession.  Here, the aquamarine subtleties of Lake Moraine offered a chance to paint freely with supernatural color.

Since July of this summer, I began a campaign to apply to many juried shows, exhibitions, competitions and events all over the country.  It resulted in more show opportunities for more of my work (and not just watercolor) than I could have possibly imagined.

At the same time, the pricing and logistics inherent in invitation to so many shows all within the same time frame pointed out some obvious truths - namely - that to connect people to the opportunity to own my original artwork, a key value of my business, would be up to me to conceive and structure.

The whole idea of this sale is to allow anyone with at least $ 200 to spend on original artwork the chance to begin or add to their art collection, or to give Holiday gifts that are memorable.
