5.28.24 - Tuesday - Denver, CO

Greetings from the Mile High City.

Yesterday I drove from Flagstaff, AZ to Denver CO, a 680-mile drive, and an 1800-ft decrease in elevation.  All gratitude to my host in Denver, my best friend and fellow artist Max Roath.

With another week of this high-altitude project (4 weeks in total) to go, I am saddened to leave Flagstaff behind, just as I am eager for ongoing artwork adventures with Max in Denver.  I am so grateful to ArtX Flagstaff Director Julie Sokol, and all the other wonderful people I had the good fortune to meet while in Flagstaff.  I plan on returning again, as soon as I can.

A brief update, to share the work from ArtX Flagstaff, including (for me and I suspect for anyone?) a first, figuring out how to bring my 30 x 42” watercolor boards intact up to 11,600 ft, and make a plein air landscape looking down at the earth from that height.  I know of no one else using this process to make such work, and can find no evidence of anyone else ever having worked like this, in this media, at this scale.

In some ways, I’m proud of the merging of my physical capacity with my artwork practice - in the case of the pack carrying 30 x 42” paper, I have been dreaming of this, designed it on paper, built it the night before, tested it out, suited up, did it.

The path from dream to actuality was fairly linear.  Of course, mistakes were made… but being the first one to do something (or the first you know of) means making all the mistakes, too, not just owning the successes.

Some of these works are available, as well.  If you enjoy these updates, the work I make, feel free to reach out for any reason.  As the spring rolls on into summer, I again emphasize that my art practice and my art business are both in flux.  If you have your eye on a particular piece, the time to commit and purchase is immediately, as the remainder of the year will be a challenging process of change and development that will almost certainly make it difficult to get your work to you, or may put said work in front of a larger audience or display opportunity commitment.
