Drawing the figure and portrait has been a consistent practice, some of my most fruitful learning. Every figure drawing from life is a passage of time, a collection of discoveries. I got my first experience with “real” figure drawing, from the live nude model, at age 13, in a class taught by Gage Academy of Art Cofounder (and incredible artist) Gary Faigin. I was allowed into the adult class on special exception, and remember being very intimated to be there, especially the first day. Gary was wonderful, a pleasure to be around, to listen to, to learn from. We drew the figure in charcoal on mostly 18 x 24” paper, fairly short, gestural poses, maybe twenty minutes per pose, per drawing. For the 2023 Holiday Sale, I’m offering some of my most successful gestural figure drawings and paintings from the last several years, nearly all of which were created in Open Studios hosted by Gage Academy of Art - the school where I got my start in formal art training from a young age. I still am deeply affectionate and grateful for Gage, both as a venue to meet other artists, volunteer my time, exhibit, socialize, and restore faith.
