3.18.24 - Monday Dear Art Lover, This week is going to be packed. Monday through Friday I’ll be outside as much as I can, with a focus on two iconic seattle springtime views - those of the Cherry Blossoms on the Quad at UW, as well as the views of the mountains on these bluebird days we have coming up. For the Rainier views, specifically, I’ve already begun to take advantage of the long and clear sight lines. I’ve had several inquiries about these works - here is what I have so far - and potentially stay tuned for more this week. These works tend to sell quickly. For the Cherry Blossoms, I’ll be adding those works to my site as I make them, as well as promoting that work specifically on LinkedIn. If you have an eye for a plein air painting or two of the UW Cherry Blossoms, I would watch my available works section closely this week - as these email updates may lag behind what is actually available. These works, also, tend to sell quickly. Aside from attempting to paint both views of mountains and cherry blossoms as much as possible… tonight I have a very special event, the Seattle film premier of my friend Freddie Wong’s SXSW-accepted film “We’re All Going To Die”, screening for free at the Crocodile. Freddie has been a long-time friend and inspiration. He came out to San Diego this fall for the San Diego Watercolor Society show which featured one of my works, “Plein Air 4-5pm Lakeside Crew at Kenmore Log Boom Park”, a view of our high school’s (Lakeside) rowing team. Seeing the film tonight and hopefully getting to hang out a bit should be a blast. Wednesday and Thursday of this week, I’ll be going back into the studio for some figure drawing and / or painting, in Open Studios hosted by Gage Academy of Art. Although I’ve been drawing portraits and figures plenty, this will be the first time in a long time that I’ll be in a formal studio setting with a posed model. I look forward to sharing that work either later this week or next. Speaking of Gage - this Saturday is Gage’s Collector’s Gala, which I am very much looking forward to attending. I have one piece as part of the auction, “Plein Air, Waves and Clouds at Alki, ~3-4pm, Windy, 2.7.23,” watercolor, 30 x 42”, 2023. I look forward to meeting other guests and artists who are interested in the kind of artwork and learning that Gage promotes and teaches. Cheers and enjoy the sunshine, David
