Here is another section of the previously mentioned application to an artist opportunity involving intensive study of plein air painting, this time the prompt is:

Why do you want to work en plein air?

“I love working en plein air.  I welcome the challenge of a new venue, and especially, to be able to do what I do alongside other artists who are similarly driven and fascinated by the natural light outdoors.  I find that working in the same location day after day, or returning over multiple months or years, the work improves.  I enjoy the feeling of working outside, the challenges of trying to work as fast as possible as the light changes, and the inimitable effects of working directly from life as opposed to other methods.”

In addition, I look forward with great enthusiasm to drawing and painting the live model today in an Open Studio at Gage.  Drawing the figure is one of the core practices of my art, and drawing from a posed model in a studio setting has been a long time coming, with the bulk of my recent production either en plein air, outside, or from unposed figures.
