2.22.24 Thursday - Upcoming: Plein Air Easton

Today’s email is short, bringing good news.

I’ve been accepted to”Plein Air Easton”, scheduled for this July 12-21 in Easton, MD.

I’d applied to several other “Plein air competitions” and not gotten in, for whatever reason, so it was a bit of a surprise to be invited to what I’m told is the “…largest and most prestigious juried plein air painting competition in the United States.” (From their website).

What is a plein air competition?  First off, I don’t view art as a competition, but there exist events where artists are invited to come paint en plein air (outside, from life) for a week or a weekend or so, and then their work is judged alongside other artists’ work from the same event.  Collectors are invited, work is sold, prizes given, etc.  I’ve never done one, but the idea sounded fun, and as I am often outside making plein air work anyways, I figured I’d apply to the best one out there.

I am looking forward to the event, with no expectations, really, just keen to paint all day every day, which is what I tend to do on my vacations.
