“@Kimchi House, 12.8.23, Friday, 8pm”, graphite, 9 x 12”, 2023. This five to ten-minute drawing was made while waiting for our food at Kimchi House, a favorite place of mine, just down the street on 24th Ave NW in Ballard. This person was on a date, I think, and was holding fairly still, probably nervous, maybe a first date, even. I resisted the urge to show him (and her!) the drawing after I was finished (and we had our food) because I didn’t want to make them self-conscious… plus you never know how people will react to a non-consensual drawing of them in a public place. Plus… if they like each other I hope it works out! I’m an observer, not seeking attention in these scenarios.

“Bobo in bed, wrapped, 12.19.23, Tues, Night”, pen, 9 x 12”, 2023. This five-minute drawing of the sheepadoodle Bobo (told you he’d be back) was made as he slept in his doggie bed with a blanket I threw over him for the cold. Sometimes when he is lying flat and dead tired it’s difficult to tell limb from face from ear, especially when he is very long and shaggy-haired and hasn’t had a haircut recently.

“Big Bobo on the couch, 12.22.23, Fri, PM”, pen, 9 x 12”, 2023. This five-minute drawing of Bobo was made before he moved. Sometimes the drawing’s time window is dictated by my energy levels, or by what else I’ve got going on, and sometimes it’s dictated by how long the subject remains approximately in a similar position. Animals are always on the move, and I suspect that Bobo moved too significantly to keep working on this drawing.
