I am honored, and grateful. This is the second 1st place honor for a painting I’ve received from the RIWS, the first for my Logboom park painting “Plein Air, Dock at Kenmore’s Log Boom Park, ~3:30-4:30pm”, currently on display at Gage Academy. The story of the snow view is interesting, because I didn’t think I’d ever finish it, begun the snowy morning of December 20, 2022, with a large light wash of gray over the paper, leaving two white rectangles for the foreground roofs. As the snow melted, I watched the wash dry, and by the time it was dry enough to work over, the snow had all melted. I couldn’t work on the piece that day…. unless I wanted to use photos (I don’t), so I decided to stay patient for another snow day where I was free to paint. Months went by, and the weather warmed. I’d given up hope and written off the piece as unfinished, when February 22, 2023, I awoke to identical conditions, got out the piece, and worked as fast as I could as the snow fell, and melted again. While winning awards and recognition for the work itself is always welcome, my purpose in making what I make is to share what I experience, and to make it accessible. Hence, the Holiday Sale 2023 (the password is painting). We are two days away from the opening of the sale to the public, and I am looking forward to it. Thank you to everyone who has bought original artwork so far.
