Dear Art Lover, This week, I am traveling (with an entourage of family and friends) to San Diego for the Awards Reception of the San Diego Watercolor Society’s Plein Air Exhibition, juried by watercolor artist Joseph Zbukvic. Zbukvic is one of the world’s most experienced and accomplished artists in the medium of watercolor, having practiced his craft for decades of dedication, winning all and any conceivable award and recognition. What I haven’t shared yet, that I will here, is that the juror Zbukvic has awarded my painting, “Plein Air, 4-5pm, Lakeside Crew at Kenmore’s Log Boom Park“ First place in the exhibition. I was surprised and grateful to have learned this good news a few weeks ago. I had entered this exhibition specifically because I have so much respect for the juror’s work, career, and attitude towards his art and his process. Clearly, he has put in countless, countless hours of very hard work to be able to do what he can with his medium. I was curious, if I entered the show, to see what he would make of what I do with watercolor, and perhaps to be able to chat him up a bit about his process. If you are going to be in the San Diego area this coming Saturday, December 2nd, 2-4pm, I encourage you to come out for the event, it should be a great time. It will also be my first time visiting the San Diego Watercolor Society in person, and I look forward to meeting like-minded artists and art enthusiasts. Cheers, David
