Dear Art Lover,

Of course I keep track of metrics for the business side of my art career.  At the conclusion of this year, I decided to look also at the metrics of the making of the work itself.

On the first graph, the blue lines are for Plein Air Watercolors painted (PAWCs), the green is Plein Air Drawings (PADs), and the gray is for graphite drawings, listed as monthly totals.

On the second graph, the blue is the combined total of those three types of work made.

My total PAWCs in 2022 was 75, total PADs 70, total graphites 29.

In 2023, the total PAWCs were 100, PADs 14, graphites (as of this writing, on the eve of the new year), 49.  In August and September of 2023, I made 23 and 24 paintings, respectively, almost an average of 1 a day.

While numbers could never tell the stories that the art itself can, I am proud of the realities, the discipline, that these numbers reflect.

Many good things can happen through getting out the door and into the world, consistently, repeatedly, over time.  The events, art made, sales, new friendships and lasting communities formed in 2023 are beyond any expectations I set for myself when I (re-) began my pro art practice in Seattle, Fall 2021.
