I bought my first real original art piece for $1500 in 2011, and at the time, I had no budget for art whatsoever - I created three new commissioned pieces, $500 each, to be able to pay for the art I wanted to buy.  I couldn’t afford to buy the piece; buying that art took extra work.  To date it is one of my most cherished pieces, part of an always-growing original art collection.  For me, part of the value of the work is what I invested to make it a part of my life.

Yesterday I had the privilege to finally meet in person a juror who awarded one of my paintings first place in a show.  In this show, my paintings were priced $3k to $12k.  This juror (an artist themselves) said kind and thoughtful things about my work, emphasizing that $3k to $12k is reasonable, given the quality, scale, and integrity of the work.

While I am grateful that they affirmed this, and I believe it too, I also believe in opening up the opportunity to own my original artwork to a broader audience than only those who have that significant a budget for art.

Yesterday was the beginning of the my 2023 Holiday Sale Pre-Sale, a chance to own original artworks before they go live to the public on Thursday, 11/9 at 8am PST.  I priced the work for this special sale to reflect a belief in connecting people with original art, with many pieces in the $200 to $500 range.  If you haven’t already, I recommend you view and / or download the catalog, here.

Anyone wondering abstractly “how do I support artists who I want to see continue to make work, how do I demonstrate that art is valuable in my life and in all our lives?”  There is really only, ever, one answer, and it is to own art you love.
