Going back to 18 x 24” scale after working at 40 x 60” scale (for “Plein Air, 1-3pm, Waves at Gualala Point, Fog, 9.9.24”) was an interesting exercise. I had come to this beach specifically to see some of the rock formations giving it its name, but they were covered by a high tide. With waves and beaches there is always something to see, and I think it was during this piece that I decided informally to focus on waves for Plein Air Gualala, unless something more interesting came up. I wouldn’t be able to see the sea from the non-California events I had on the horizon.
