Although I painted this during Plein Air Gualala, I did so knowing that the dimension meant it would be prohibited from display for the festival. Nevertheless, I had to continnue my experiments with 40 x 60” plein air watercolor painting. In this case, I wanted to paint waves in larger scale than I had before (previously up to 30 x 42”), as well as try out a 10 x 10 foot shade tent I’d just bought, and was eager to test. Both aspects worked well. It was a foggy day so I didn’t really need the shade, but the exercise to drag it out to the sandy beach, often inch by inch, was achieved. I’m fairly proud of some of the effects within the wave. Working at this scale is fun and I highly recommend it, regardless of your subject or media.
