This is one of my favorite pieces of 2023, but it is understated, not flashy, and has been overlooked so far for exhibition.  I was proud of the color achieved on the yachts, the warmth of the off-white fiberglass hulls more or less exactly as I saw them, a contrast to the cool colors of the foggy morning, the water, the distant Capitol Hill.  I’ve painted this same location / scene many times, and this remains one of my most successful attempts.  I enjoy days that are less spectacular and more “ordinary”, more nuanced, harder to paint, and more rewarding when done some justice.
