Original Watercolor Painting, “Plein Air, Bainbridge Island From Discovery Park in Seattle , WA, 3:20 - 4:20pm, 1.14.23”, watercolor, 30 x 42”, 2023

This award-winning painting was my second attempt at a 30 x 42” “en plein air” watercolor painting, at the time the largest scale I’d worked in, and made entirely outside, from life, on site.  The colors are not exaggerated, but more or less as I saw them, on a particularly chromatic afternoon, the sun low in the sky over Bainbridge Island, looking West from the cliffs at Discovery Park, one of my favorite plein air painting haunts.  January and February in Seattle occasionally have some of the most striking sunsets and sunrises of the whole year.
