With a few good paintings already made for Eagle, and this event being the only one thus far on my schedule that, I was told had “no size limit”, I was eager to make something 40 x 60”, even though at the time I had no frame for such a work with me. Finer Frames, the host organization, made me a custom 40 x 60” frame on very short notice, so that I was able to include this work in the show. This farm was no longer a working farm, but one made up for show, including this beautiful tractor sitting pretty with staged hay. I had fun working on something a bit more complicated elementally than waves, sketching out the outlines of some key forms with light orange paint before diving in with fully chromatic washes and marks. This work won a blue ribbon.
