I was excited to try to paint the different yellow, red, and blue lighting to the left, right, and center of this nighttime scene. I was not actually keen to paint at all this night, as it was the same day as the quick draw (“Plein Air, 10:35am-noon, Finer Frames, 10.5.24”), and only a day after the first event at a winery (“Plein Air, 6-8pm, Proletariat Winery, 10.4.24”). I started late for me, 8:35pm, and worked methodically until almost 11. I was finally starting to be able to paint some of the things I’ve always wanted to - bars and bar lighting at night - the informal social scenes of cities. I stayed up far too late after this painting was done, enjoying cocktails and social time out, wired from paying that much attention that late in the day. This work won 2nd Place, Nocturne.
