This painting, the fourth from that day (four was the most I’d made in a day at the time), is more of a giant color sketch, made because the after-storm orange glow in the sky was fascinating, especially in contrast to the dark of the restaurant building, the glow of the light from inside the kitchen as the trash is taken out. Just a few minutes before, the rain and wind had been coming down so hard that waves of seawater were washing into the dining room floor. We had to turn in the competition work for Plein Air Easton the next morning. This piece was more for my own personal memory than anything designed to be seen.
