In the middle of painting with Plein Air Gualala, I added an event, the Mendocino Open Paint Out. Even though the event schedules were concurrent, I could do both because the openings were on different nights, the range of where to paint was almost equivalent, and because I paint a lot. This was the first of four pieces made for that event. I thought I only had an hour to submit this work when in fact I had two - so I was working under a “go as fast as possible” pressure, and painted accordingly. I was right on the edge of a cliff, directly above the water crashing on the sheared rock, and it was fun to watch the big waves come in.
