This is the last painting made during Art Tour 2024. I was revisiting the bar Sidecar for the second night in a row - the first night I had made a sketch of a piano player in graphite, red pencil, and ink. The lighting in the bar, particularly around the stage, was very interesting to me, and I believed I could paint it, despite never really having tried to do something like this before, the closest work being the nocturne “Plein Air, 8:35-10:35pm, Outside 13th St Pub, 10.5.24” in Eagle, ID. I worked on this painting a bit afterwards, away from the venue, to delineate the contours and shapes of the figures from memory, to make them feel a bit more tangible.
