When I started this work I’d been painting at this same beach since 11am, but felt fresh and ready to handle some of the complexities of the afternnoon sunlight on the sand and water. In this work, I got lucky, as a surfer was just leisurely making her way out on foot, the receding tide having exposed hundreds and hundreds of meters of flat wet sand, the waves maybe a kilometer further out than earlier in the day. The outflow stream in the foreground is the same stream as “Plein Air, 1:45-2:40pm, Moonstone Beach (Wagon), 10.1.24”.
