This series of puppy studies, all of the same puppy, is the second page of sketches made this morning of this dog with permission from their owner. I was having such a relaxing, enjoyable time observing this puppy lying down, wanting to greet other dogs, napping in its owner’s arms, looking cute, etc, that I was able to paint productively that afternoon (“Plein Air, 1:30-4:30pm, Wheat Field at Tinworks, 8.1.24”), and make my best work. For this drawing, I would first loosely sketch the outline of the puppy in thick marker (the thicker lines), then work back in with a ballpoint pen (the thinner lines) for details.
