40. Original Plein Air Drawing, "Plein Air, Casper Hotel Morning, 8.7.24”, ink, 9 x 12”, 2024
Location: Casper, WY
This sketch was made as I awoke to direct sunlight out my East-facing window in Casper, Wyoming, waiting on finances to come through to be able to buy a new car after the Pugmobile (“Plein Air, Pugmobile Portrait, 8.6.24”) broke down between Bozeman and Denver. Sometimes I enjoy using “the wrong tool” to describe the effects of light - in this case, ballpoint pen and marker to draw what probably should have been made with graphite or watercolor. I believe with close enough observation and sensitivity you can make any media work with any subject. I loved how the light shone on the gas plant beyond the parking lot, how the smoke floated up into the sky, how the glare came down into the room as I squinted.
