This drawing is the fourth of five pages of gull drawings, all made from life on the same day on a beach in Port Dalhousie, near St. Catharine’s, Ontario. A single gull is studied intensely, including some delineation of the background, to show monochromatically how intensely white its breast and back are in the pure sunlight, how dark the shadow on the beach sand below.
