2. Original Plein Air Drawing, "Plein Air, Pugmobile Portrait, 8.6.24”, colored pencil, ink, graphite, 9 x 12”, 2024
Location: Caspar, WY
On the heels of winning my first two ever plein air events, Easton and Montana, my poor dear 2012 Subaru Impreza Sport, the Pugmobile, broke down halfway between Bozeman and Denver, immediately following Plein Air Montana. This portrait is of the last time I was able to spend with the Pugmobile before it was hauled off for scrap from the Subaru dealership in Caspar, Wyoming, where it had been towed 150 miles to its final resting place. I had lined up (thank god and family) a new car, a 2024 Subaru Forester, the Batmobile (it’s black and larger), to be able to carry big art and carry on. Although it was never an intended stop for Art Tour 2024, my 48 hours in Caspar yielded two sketches I’m proud of, this portrait, as well as a sketch from my hotel room window in the morning sunlight, “Plein Air, Caspar Hotel Morning, 8.7.24”.
