Working on the series of drawings this belongs to was very enjoyable, and very challenging.  I’d returned to Seattle on a break from my time in Santa Fe (six months in 2021) and this piece was among the first Plein Air Drawings (“en plein air” meaning outside, from life, no other reference) I made in my newfound “optical” way of working - seeing the light much more objectively than I had before studying oil painting in Santa Fe.  The series was covering Lakeside School’s Prom, and this particular scene was in the evening, the festival atmosphere on the campus green, the students moving around quite a bit.
