Original Plein Air Drawing, “Plein Air, Light fading, 2400 S. Hill, 8-8:30pm, 8.26.22, Friday”, acrylic paint marker, marker, colored pencil, graphite on blue paper, 8 1/2 x 11”, 2022
I love this view. This is the view of North Beacon Hill from my former apartment in Mt Baker. I could get a great look at the sunset clouds, if not the sun setting itself. The drawing is using a variety of media to achieve a painting-like optical effect… but still a drawing. “En plein air” means “in the open air”, a French term used to describe the method of landscape painting (or drawing) outside, from life, instead of from photos or while in the studio. For this piece and others like it, I had the fortune to be able to sit inside and sketch from my living room, with west-facing windows.
