Occasionally, especially on summer nights, the diversity of color in setting sunset clouds is outrageous.  I couldn’t really believe the reality of what I was seeing, and even looking at this piece now, I wonder if I exaggerated, knowing that the opposite is true:  that the light that night was beyond what I can truly show in a work of art.  I do enjoy the challenge, though, of such nights, such light conditions, and this piece is one made “en plein air”, outside, from life, instead of from a photo or other reference.  The view looking North from my old apartment in the Mt. Baker neighborhood, I often sketched in the evening, inspired by the end-of-day atmospheres.
