In this third of three pages of sketching “Gary” the heron in Eastlake, I was able to take the previous hour of experience and make work that more accurately describes the shape and form of the bird. The longer you draw any subject, even for a few minutes more, the better and more resolved the work tends to get. One moment I was not expecting from Gary (as the neighbors told me have named him) was for him to stand all the small feathers on his head vertically, giving himself a mohawk, but only momentarily (upper right image). Also great was being able to give a bit more attention to the black and white decorative head feathers.
