Against the Wall
Against the Wall
Original Figure Drawing, “Against the Wall”, ink and graphite on paper, 11 1/2 x 16 1/2”, 2020
This model was particularly dynamic. This drawing was made from life, but not with the model in the room - but over zoom during lockdown. Gage Academy of Art in Seattle was still holding Open Studios, where artists could drop in and draw from the live model, but “virtual” open studios. I made this staring at the model through my laptop screen. It was a great pose, and a great day of drawing in general, but such sessions made me hunger for the real thing, and were part of my reasons for seeking out painting portraits live in at The Ryder Studio in Santa Fe, a life-changing decision, one that permanently altered my art for the better.
