Arched Torso of a Woman, After Rodin
Arched Torso of a Woman, After Rodin
Original Mastercopy Drawing, “Arched Torso of a Woman, After Rodin”, graphite, 8 1/2 x 11”, 2021
The original sculpture this drawing was made after is in bronze, meaning that drawing the form was a bit of a challenge, given the greenish local color. A “mastercopy” like this one studies the work of another artist so as to learn and understand. I particularly enjoyed the moment of the model’s arm being missing between shoulder and wrist - yet still felt and continued down to the hand. I worked in very dark and very soft graphite, quickly with no corrections. Rodin has long been one of my favorite sculptors - it was fun to visit this work and others of his as part of a larger project of mastercopies, completed Fall 2021.
