Original Mastercopy Drawing, “Ida Lvovna Rubinstein, After Serov”, graphite, 8 1/2 x 11”, 2021

Valentin Serov, a Russian artist, made the original full-length portrait painting this mastercopy drawing is based on.  Serov’s painting is in oil, my version in graphite.  I enjoyed the freedom of working quickly in dark, soft graphite on this drawing, not bothering to correct or erase, just a sketch to get the gesture and feeling of the original work, or at least, what I enjoyed and saw in it.  This piece was part of a larger series of mastercopy drawings I made in Fall 2021.
