18.  Original Plein Air Drawing, "Plein Air, Gulls at St. Catharine's 2, 7.25.24”, ink, 9 x 12”, 2024

Location: St. Catharine’s, Ontario, Canada

This drawing is the second of five pages of gull drawings, all made from life on the same day on a beach in Port Dalhousie, near St. Catharine’s, Ontario. I was getting used to drawing gulls again, especially gulls this active and in-motion. They seemed to respond to the energetic atmosphere of a peak July summer day in Lake Ontario. Some views, like the gull with its wings 50% folded in the lower left, are visible only for a fraction of a second. I observe, and for a few moments can call on a clear but fleeting visual memory.
